About AFP North Carolina

AFP-NC is part of the nation’s premier grassroots organization committed to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity. AFP-NC believes reducing the size and scope of government is the best safeguard to ensuring individual productivity and prosperity. AFP-NC educates and engages citizen leaders in support of restraining local, state and federal government growth, and returning government to its constitutional limit. AFP-NC also actively supports legislation that expands economic freedom.

Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina is one of the original three state chapters of Americans for Prosperity. The organization has existed since the late 1990’s as Citizens for a Sound Economy.

Today Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina has grassroots members in all 100 counties. The group holds organizational meetings throughout the state.

AFP-NC is been successful in beating local efforts to raise meals, sales and transfer taxes. Americans for Prosperity also has help stop statewide tax increases and works to protect private property.

AFP-NC 2010 Legislative Agenda

  • Fight all tax increases, including but not limited to sales, income, land transfer, highway use, meals, tobacco and alcohol.
  • Increase the number of public charter schools and other school choice options available to parents.
  • Promote the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) that would limit government spending to the increase in population and inflation.
  • Eliminate corporate welfare (incentives) and adjust the corporate rate to 2 to 3%.
  • Protect private property:

· Support a constitutional amendment stopping eminent domain abuse.

· Stop forced municipal annexation.

· Stop excessive property tax increases that threaten homes & businesses.

  • Dedicate all lottery revenue to school construction.
  • Support free markets by opposing new laws/regulations that restrict businesses such as outlawing smoking in private businesses.
  • Fight “welfare for politicians” known as taxpayer funded elections.
  • Protect free and political speech rights.
  • Keep North Carolina a “Right to Work” state:

· Protect government employees from Unions having access to pay checks.

· Protect taxpayers from public employee strikes and work stoppages.

· Support State Constitutional Amendment to protect workers’ rights to secret ballot elections.
