TALLAHASSEE – Americans for Prosperity-Florida, the nation’s premier free market grassroots organizing group, issued the following statement in reaction to Gov. Scott’s state of the state address today.


“Florida saw many great reforms in 2011, but there is much work still to be done. While $4.5 Billion was cut from the state budget last year, Florida still faces a $2 Billion shortfall,” said State Director Slade O’Brien. “AFP-Florida supports Gov. Scott’s proposals to balance the budget and create new and desperately-needed jobs here in the
Sunshine State.”

West Palm Beach—The Florida chapter of the free market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP-FL) today applauded U.S. House candidate Joe Goldner (20th District) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” Goldner joins more than 575 bipartisan lawmakers and candidates on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”

The one thing elected officials should agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses. We encourage all of Florida’s elected officials and candidates for elected office to sign the pledge.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 17, 2011) – As November 23rd approaches, the Congressional Super Committee is considering jamming agricultural subsidies into their budget recommendations. These efforts, led by agricultural special interest groups, are an attempt to bypass the traditional Farm Bill legislation planned for 2012. Now state based conservative groups are coming together to share their views with inside the beltway heavyweights to speak out against the inclusion of Big Sugar in a back door, sequestered sneak attack.

The Super Committee, charged with righting the economic wrongs of the country, continues to include sugar subsidies that benefit a minority and cost consumers and sugar-using businesses millions annually. Groups such as the National Taxpayers Union and Americans for Prosperity are calling for a more public process that sheds light on these back-door policies.
