AFP to Dole, Burr, Jones: Don't Play "Santa Claus" With Our Tax Dollars

A couple of days ago, the Havelock (N.C.) News ran an interesting article that detailed a recent trip to Washington by three local officials looking for $48.2 million in taxpayer-funded pork.  Seems they've even spent $38,000 local taxpayer dollars to hire fancy high-priced Washington lobbyists to help them get support from U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr and U.S. Rep. Walter Jones -- who they want to serve as their "city's Santa Claus," according to the article.

Here at AFP, we think it's about time lawmakers start hearing from taxpayers who DON'T want them to give out our money like they're Santa Claus for a change, so this afternoon we put out a news release and sent letters to Dole, Burr and Jones publicly challenging them to withstand this $38,000 taxpayer-funded lobbying blitz.

You can read our news release here and see one of the letters here.

Then you can contact Sen. Dole, Sen. Burr and Congressman Jones by clicking on their names above.

UPDATE: 12:53 p.m. -- Andy Roth at the Club for Growth reminds me that Sen. Burr and Congressman Jones have voluntarily given up pork-barrel earmarks for the year, so we obviously hope they'll stick to that.
