Internet Regulation is not American

There they go again, as Ronald Reagan would say. Congress – even a Democratic congress – refused to regulate the Internet, so Obama pushed for the Federal Communications Commission to do what he could not get Congress to do.

FCC is apparently headed for a 3-2 party-line vote to regulate the Internet on Dec. 21. Commissioner Robert M. McDowell (a stalwart free-market champion who opposes the regulations) called it “the darkest day of the year.” Read AFP policy director Phil Kerpen’s piece in today’s Washington Times “Silencing Voices of the Internet”: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/dec/14/silencing-voices-of-inte...

McDonald had previously said: "That was sort of like the quarterback being sacked for a 20-yard loss," FCC Commissioner Robert M. McDowell told The Washington Times. "And now the team is about to run the exact same play. ... In order for the FCC to do this, it needs for Congress to give it explicit statutory authority to do so." We will live in a different America if we allow our federal government to regulate the Internet.
