Changing the Nation, One State at a Time
Hartford CT- Twenty years ago, Connecticut passed a state income tax, sold to citizens as a short-term solution to the state’s budget crisis. Twenty years later, the citizens of Connecticut and the state of the economy are still suffering. Happy Taxiversary Connecticut!
“Connecticut continues to have one of the highest tax rates in the country and lawmakers simply added to that gross burden on taxpayers by passing a budget last year including $1.5 billion in increased taxes on income and businesses and an increase in the sales tax,” said JR Romano, AFP-Connecticut State Director. “This website serves as a reminder of our failing economy and encourages citizens not only to contact Gov. Malloy, but to remain active and engaged in the legislative process.”
The website encourages citizens to send Governor Malloy an e-card wishing him a “Happy Taxiversary.” The website gives citizens the ability to send e-cards to Governor Malloy as well as offer some staggering statistics about how over taxed Connecticut’s residents are. The ultimate message is to urge Gov. Malloy to get Connecticut’s fiscal house in order - without raising taxes.
“Since the passage of the income tax, Connecticut has dramatically risen to the third worst personal income tax environment in the United States,” JR continued. “Governor Malloy hosted a job summit yesterday and declared Connecticut open for business, but when did it close? I would say about twenty years ago when the income tax was passed. So until this governor starts tightening government’s belt, Connecticut will sadly stay on this path of no growth.”
