San Diego—Americans for Prosperity California State Director David Spady joined with Congressman Brian Bilbray and others today in calling for an end to out-of-control government spending.
“The federal government is spending so much that every American household is now $30,543 in debt,” explained Spady. “By the time this press conference is over, the government will have spent over $67 million dollars. In fact, the federal government is spending $112,000 every second. This type of spending is completely irresponsible.
“In California, the problem is especially bad,” continued Spady. “California’s deficit this year is $19.1 billion—and Sacramento politicians are more than a month past their constitutional deadline to pass a budget. The public employee pension liability for California exceeds $500 billion. Every Californian is responsible for $2,362 of debt. That means every child born in the Golden State automatically starts life thousands of dollars in debt.

“Yet another example of the recklessness of California government spending is the rate of spending in the last 15 years,” explained Spady. “In 1995, the state budget was $56.8 billion. This year, it will exceed $131 billion. State spending has doubled in the last five years alone. This type of spending is unsustainable and it must stop now.”
