Life, Death, and Blue Dogs

Life, Death, and Blue Dogs
The health care debate is continuing to boil and people are getting involved like never before. Thousands of Georgians have signed our "Hands Off My Health Care" petition opposing a government intrusion into health care. We get hourly reports of what’s happening with the bill from various Washington sources. All reports center around the “Blue Dog” Democrats, those who we expect to be most moderate.

In GA, Blue Dogs Barrow and Marshall are against the bill, so far. Stay after them, please. For the rest of the GA delegation, it’s a Party line split. Is it too late to call your Congressman and Senators? NO! Not until the vote is over, which may happen in the House before August Recess.

Congressman Gingrey held a Town Hall in Rome last Saturday, where most people who showed up opposed the bill. Congressman Price joined thousands of AFP members from across the US Tuesday evening for a live TeleTown Hall, where Shona shared her hair- raising experiences with the Canadian system.

Of particular amusement was Cong. John Lewis’ “Town Hall” on health care – at 9 AM on Monday morning. Obviously, he was really reaching out to common sense folk like us. Some of our AFP activists attended anyway. Here’s part of what AFP Member Judy wrote: “ The head of Grady Hospital, head of a community health service and the local head of the AFLCIO of all people were at the head table with Lewis on a panel; no one listened to much of what they had to say, we were there with questions. I basically pointed out my 3 problems with this bill:

1- Taxpayer funded on demand abortion --by physicians who have no choice

2- Rationing health care to those who are elderly and have no choice and even more need for the services

3-The killing of small business --which is the life blood of America

I am very happy I went. I ran to the podium and was 2nd to make statements.

Most people just wanted to be totally emotional and tell John Lewis what a great man he was. I pleaded for him to put his country first and the people of America...first on his list...putting his rewards last.

I also turned to the crowd and insisted they read the bill ....especially pages 16 &134. I left them with this final comment, "You will not want this bill or anything else free when you find out what the cost really is ...I said then thanked him and left the mike.

I cannot wait to do more.”

Hopefully, many Georgians agree with Judy, because look what’s coming up!
