O'Malley's Answer to Budget Deficit: More Borrowing, More Bailouts

As we have written about previously, the state budget is out of balance - Gov. O'Malley relied on a $389 million from a federal bailout that was blocked by the US Senate. Yesterday, I attended the Board of Public Works meeting and asked the Governor how he intends on balancing the budget. His answer, while incoherent at times, boiled down to the fact that he would raid more special funds and ask for another federal bailout.

Gov. O'Malley attempted to cut me off several times and shoo me off the microphone with his bureaucratic renderings - however, the point was made. His fiscally irresponsible budget has put the state into a deficit, and he refuses to address it with real solutions. We will continue to watch this story as it drags on into the fall. Many thanks to the AFPers who traveled with me to Annapolis to attend the hearing - our voices were heard! Look for video from the meeting to be posted shortly.
