AFP News Release:
As part of the taxpayer group’s effort to repeal Cap & Trade legislation and withdraw New Jersey from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), Americans for Prosperity has unveiled a new website called www.NoNJCapAndTrade.com.
“Americans for Prosperity has been leading the fight to stop cap and trade at the federal level. Yet, in the northeast the RGGI cap and trade program has been flying under the radar for two years. The program has already cost rate payers over $65 million in New Jersey alone,” said Phil Kerpen, AFP’s Vice President for Policy.
“Cap and Trade programs must not be allowed to take root at the state level. Not only do they have devastating economic consequences, but they are designed to push the federal government to adopt an even more expensive federal program.”
Mr. Kerpen’s latest podcast addresses the RGGI program, calling for its repeal and urging Cap & Trade opponents to support the repeal legislation introduced by Assemblywoman Alison McHose (R-24) and Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-25.)
NoNJCapAndTrade.com provides consumers with critical information about Cap & Trade. A map of each congressional district highlights key statistics about the Waxman-Markey Cap & Trade bill which passed the House last year. Here, key statistics are shown for each district regarding how the legislation would cost New Jerseyans jobs, lost income and wealth.
“We believe it is vitally important that we get the message out to New Jersey taxpayers that this program exists and they are paying for it every month by way of higher utility rates,” said New Jersey State Director Steve Lonegan. “The people of our state need to know the facts about how this stealth energy tax will hurt the state’s economy and their own pocketbooks. This website will do that.”
