AFP-OH is joining with Citizens United to End Ohio’s Estate Tax in collecting signatures for the statewide ballot initiative underway to END Ohio’s death tax effective at the end of 2012.
Do you want your estate subject to Ohio’s estate tax? Do you want your heirs short-changed? If not:
PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO HELP. ACT NOW! :
Click http://www.endohioestatetax.com/pdf/estate_tax_petition_89afp1.pdf to print petitions and instructions.
Please sign one petition yourself—with your spouse or friend as a witness. Please complete this first step, even if you are unable to do steps 2 through 4.
On a second petition, collect up to 6 signatures of family and friends, who are Ohio registered voters. You are the witness. All signatures on a petition must reside in the same county. Print extra petitions if you want to collect more than 6 signatures or signatures from more than one county.
Forward this e-mail, along with a message of support, to other Ohioans in your personal address book. Encourage your friends and acquaintances to print & sign a petition and gather a few signatures.
Mail your completed petitions ASAP —but no later than April 30, 2010 to the address given in the instructions.
If you have questions, please e-mail to circulators@endohioestatetax.com.
Background on Ohio’s tax system and estate tax:
The Tax Foundation reports that Ohio has the 7th highest state & local tax burden among the 50 states. The Tax Foundation’s 2010 Business Climate Index ranked Ohio as having the 47th most economically destructive state & local tax system, trailing only New Jersey, New York, and California.
Ohio’s estate tax is one of our most destructive taxes. Any taxable estate above $338,333 is hit by this tax, which includes much of the middle class, farmers, and small business owners. This tax encourages people, businesses, jobs, and capital to leave Ohio for one of the 30 states that do not have any death taxes. For all the harm done, Ohio’s estate tax generates well less than 1% of total state & local revenues.
