AFP-Washington State Responds to PDC’s Unanimous Dismissal of Frivolous Complaint

SEAVIEW, WA – Americans for Prosperity-Washington issued the following statement in response to the Public Disclosure Commission’s unanimous decision to dismiss two baseless complaints against Americans for Prosperity-Washington:

“Americans for Prosperity-Washington always contended that these were baseless, frivolous complaints, and we thank the PDC for rightly dismissing them. The dismissal should have come last month based on staff recommendations, but special interests tried to politicize the process and chill speech. Americans for Prosperity’s 1.9 million activists will not be silenced. Going forward, Americans for Prosperity will continue exercising its rights under the First Amendment while at the same time being compliant under the law,” said AFP-Washington State Director Nansen Malin.

Earlier today, the Public Disclosure Commission approved recommendations from Commission Staff and the Attorney General’s office to dismiss two complaints against Americans for Prosperity-Washington, one filed by Carrie Dolwick of the Sierra Club and one filed by Dwight Pelz of the Washington Democratic Party. This is the second staff recommendation to dismiss. The first recommendation was issued in December. The complaints alleged that Americans for Prosperity-Washington violated state campaign finance laws by not registering as a political committee and by not filing disclosure reports for independent expenditures and electioneering communications. The PDC agreed with Americans for Prosperity that it was compliant with the law and that the allegations were without merit.

Malin continued, “With the state unemployment rate at 9% and climbing, it is imperative to return to the real issues at hand. Washington citizens are struggling to get by while Congress and our State Legislature continue to spend without regard for the burden their reckless spending habits place on taxpayers.”

“ AFP-Washington looks forward to continuing the debate over sound economic policy and will continue to work with citizens across our great state to bring desperately needed jobs and economic growth back to Washington.”
