Governor Jennifer Granholm is poised to give the unions a return on their support for her administration. According to the Michigan Information & Research Service, proposed ergonomic standards are “one item on labor's wish list that the administration could deliver”. A coalition of business interests is opposing the changes as unnecessary and burdensome. Charlie Owens of the National Federation of Independent Businesses has said that the new standards, “would be a terrible mistake for Michigan, especially at a time when our economy is in the tank. They (government officials) will claim this is early in the process, but that's not so."
